Looking for the best ways to make money online as a stay-at-home mom?
That’s exactly what I’ll be sharing with you today!
These are 21 legitimate and realistic ways that you can actually make money online in 2022 while staying home with your kids!
Let’s get to it.
1. START A BLOG
I consider blogging to be one of the best ways to make money online as a stay-at-home mom.
(As a stay-at-home mom-blogger, I might be a little biased.)
I’ll be honest with you, blogging isn’t necessarily the easiest route to take because it takes time to reach success.
But those who stay the course tend to be rewarded well.
Take Alex and Lauren from Create and Go, for example. They’ve been blogging for a few years now and are very transparent about the ups and downs of their journey.
You can see from their income reports though that things have worked out pretty dang well for them overall (they recently earned over $67k in just one month!)
They’re not the only ones, either. In fact, several bloggers out there earn six-figures each year from blogging.
If this is something you want to do, be sure to check out this step-by-step guide!
2. BECOME AN INFLUENCER
From Instagram to TikTok, influencers have absolutely blown up in today’s digital age.
If you don’t know what an influencer is, it’s basically someone who builds a personal brand that they use to collaborate with companies for money/free merchandise.
being an influencer isn’t quite the same thing as being a blogger. Influencers can work with companies and build an audience through just their social media.
You don’t have to be a teenager to make money as an influencer, either.
There are plenty of mom influencers out there who are ridiculously successful, too.
As long as you can curate an engaged following of people who are all interested in your content (AKA your target audience) then brands will want to work with you so they can get their product in front of their target market.
3. START A YOUTUBE CHANNEL
Yes, you can legitimately make money from creating content on YouTube.
It’s not as easy as it sounds, however.
There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into becoming a content creator, and YouTube is no exception.
You’ve got to focus on consistently producing high-quality videos, mastering YouTube SEO, etc.
But again, the payoff is well worth the investment.

4. START A PRINT ON-DEMAND BUSINESS
Using a print on-demand (POD) service to sell products online has become a pretty popular way to run an e-commerce store.
This is a great option for you if you’re very artsy and like to create unique designs!
Here’s how it works: You create + upload your design onto a website like Redbubble. You’ll choose what product(s) you want the design to be on, and viola! Your job is (mostly) done.
Once you’ve made a sale, Redbubble will create your physical product(s) for you and ship them out to your customers.
You’ll still have to market your shop to your potential customers, of course. But for the most part, all you have to do is create a kick-ass design and the POD service will take care of the rest.
Just like any business though, there are some pros + cons to this method.
Starting a print on-demand store is a great option if you don’t want to invest a lot of money upfront when starting a business. You also don’t have to worry about packaging orders, keeping inventory in your house, etc.
However, because you’re not doing a lot of the work the POD company takes a portion of each sale you make. Which makes sense because they’re the ones doing most of the work, after all.
Again, it’s an easy way to make money online as a stay-at-home mom! Just keep in mind that there are fees taken out with each sale you make.
5. START A DROPSHIPPING BUSINESS
Dropshipping businesses are another great way to make money online.
Sometimes people get print on-demand and drop shipping confused, so here’s the difference:
- Print on-demand: create custom products using your unique design
- Dropshipping: choose from thousands of items to sell to customers
Print on-demand is creating a custom product for your customers. Dropshipping is selling products that aren’t customized.
When you open a dropshipping store, you essentially become the middleman between the supplier and the customer. You’re not creating or designing a new product, you’re just being the middleman between the supplier and the customer.
The great thing about using this method to make money online is that you don’t have to put a lot of money into it upfront-it’s like running a brick-and-mortar store without the extra costs.
It basically just allows you to start a shop without being a brick-and-mortat store. Think of it in the way that Target doesn’t make
Again, the pros/cons are very similar to a POD service. With drop shipping, you don’t have to put in a lot of upfront cost; however, you won’t get to keep the profits from every sale. There’s a portion that the supplier takes out for their contributions.
6. WRITE (AND PUBLISH) A BOOK
One of the great things about living in the digital age is how much easier things have become, including publishing a book!
Specifically, self-publishing a book.
So if you’re a stay-at-home mom who loves to write, you can write and publish your own book in order to make extra money online.
Seriously, you’d be surprised how easy it is nowadays to self-publish a book. There’s probably thousands of self-published books on Amazon and even in bookstores right now.
If this is something you truly want to do, I highly recommend you check out Abbie Emmons over on YouTube.
She’s an indie author who not only has great videos on the writing process and creating compelling characters, she’s also got videos on how she was able to self-publish her first (and now second!) book.
7. BECOME A FREELANCER
Picking up freelancing gigs is another great way to make money online while staying home with your kids.
You can get freelance work as a:
- web designer
And more. You can reach out to companies to promote your services, but I’d recommend you use a site like Fiverr to easily find work opportunities.
Just in my experience, using Fiverr brought in job opportunities much more consistently.
8. BECOME A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
If you’ve ever run an online business or started a blog, you know that it’s more than just creating a new product or publishing a new post.
There’s a LOT of work behind-the-scenes that has to be done, and if you’re running the show by yourself it can be pretty overwhelming.
As a virtual assistant, or VA, you can help businesses + bloggers manage the chaos!
You can help create amazing content for them or even just respond to emails for them.
This is a great way to make money online if you enjoy administrative tasks or just writing in general.
Here are some services you could offer as a VA:
- Write/proofread blog posts
- Optimize blog posts for SEO
- Manage editorial calendar
- Create content for social media accounts
- Audit/reply to blog comments
- Manage/respond to emails
Etc. You’re free to choose the services you want to offer, so if there’s something you don’t like to do (like responding to emails all day) you don’t have to offer it!

9. CREATE AN ONLINE COURSE
Now more than ever, people are turning to online courses to learn new information and improve their skills.
What can you create a course on? Pretty much whatever you want!
As long as its something people genuinely want to learn about and you’re knowledgeable on the topic.
You can sell courses on your website/blog, or use a platform like Skillshare to host your course!
If you’re a blogger wanting to make serious income from selling your online course, I highly recommend Create and Go’s course Six-Figure Blogger!
Alex and Lauren detail how they were able to turn their blogs into a sustainable six-figure income business by selling courses online and scaling their income.
One of my blogging goals this year is to create my first product and this is the resource I’ve been using to help me! Highly recommend!
If you’re good at proofreading essays, resumes, etc. then this would be a great way to make money!
If you’re interested in this endeavor, you should check out Caitlin Pyle’s Proofread Anywhere.
Caitlin was able to earn over $40k in just one year from proofreading alone! Now she teaches others how to do the same.
11. TAKE ONLINE SURVEYS
If you want a quick + easy way to make a little extra money online, taking surveys is perfect for you!
There are plenty of apps you can use to do this, including SurveyJunkie and Swagbucks.
The great things about taking online surveys is that they’re fairly quick to do and you can pretty much do this whenever.
If you’re ever waiting in line somewhere or have some free time, you can take surveys and make a little extra income!
12. SELL YOUR UNWANTED ITEMS
This one is a win-win, because you can make money online while also decluttering your home!
When me and my husband were trying to save more money, I’d actually sell our old clothes, books we didn’t want anymore, and just random stuff around the house.
If you’re selling random stuff, I recommend a site like Ebay where you can sell everything in one place. But if you just want to sell clothes, I’d choose a platform like Poshmark since it’s strictly clothing-based sales.
13. START STREAMING ON TWITCH
If you have a twitch channel, you can also earn an income while staying at home!
I’ll be honest, I’ve never used Twitch as a way to make money online, so I don’t have a lot of info on it.
That’s why I recommend you check out this post from Small Business Trends which outlines the different ways you can make money on Twitch!
14. START WRITING ON MEDIUM
Writing on Medium is a fairly new way to make money online as a stay-at-home mom, but it’s a very cool idea!
In a way, it’s similar to blogging but instead of starting your own blog, you’re writing on Medium.
Once you’re accepted into their Partner Program, they pay you based on how long someone reads your post. The more people who are reading your content, the more money you make.
Seems easy enough. So, what’s the catch?
Well, to join Medium’s Partner Program, you’ve got to have at least 100 followers. Obviously it’ll vary on how long it actually takes to reach 100 followers, but afterwards you can begin earning money for your writing very quickly!
15. OPEN AN ETSY SHOP
Etsy has to be one of my favorite ways to make money online, especially as a stay-at-home mom!
This is a great option for you if you’re super crafty and like to make things!
I LOVED packing and personalizing orders for my customers! It was so much fun, and I genuinely miss doing it (I eventually had to stop so I could put more time into blogging!)
Here’s some ideas for things to sell on Etsy:
- planner/bullet journal printables
- handmade soaps, bath bombs, etc.
- woodworking projects
Pretty much anything you can think of, you can sell on Etsy. As long as you’re crafty and like to make things, Etsy is a great way for you to make money in 2022!
16. SELL STOCK PHOTOS ONLINE
Bloggers and business owners are always looking for stock photos and mockups for their business. If you’re good at photography, this would be a great option for you to make money!
I’ve seen lots of bloggers sell stock photo bundles online. You can sell them from your own website or somewhere like Creative Market!
17. SELL/FLIP BLOGS
Did you know you can make money by flipping blogs and selling them?
Flipping blogs is similar to flipping houses. You can either create a new blog from scratch or buy a run-down blog and spruce it up! Once it’s making a better profit, you can sell that blog!
This is something I’m currently doing! I’ve started a project blog that I plan to sell within the next 1-2 years.
18. INVEST IN STOCKS
I’ll be honest, I used to think it was too confusing to try investing in the stock market. But with apps like Acorns and Robin Hood, investing in the stock market has become so much easier.
Acorns is an app I’ve used for a few years. They round up your purchases to the nearest dollar, and then invest your spare change into the stock market for you!
19. SELL YOUR DESIGNS
If you’re looking to make money online as a stay-at-home mom, this is a great option for you if you enjoy creating unique designs!
You can sell your designs on a platform like Creative Market! You can sell things like:
- graphic designs
20. TEST OUT APPS/WEBSITES
Did you know that you can make money online by testing out websites/apps and giving your feedback on them?
You can sign up to become a user tester on sites like usertesting.com.
There’s a short test that you have to pass, then you can start earning anywhere from $4-$120 per test/live interview! Some tests are as quick as 5 minutes!
21. JOIN AFFILIATE PROGRAMS
Affiliate marketing is one of the first ways I made money with my first blog, it’s a great form of passive income!
For bloggers, Amazon’s affiliate program is one of the most popular affiliate programs, you can now use affiliate links from Amazon on Pinterest so you don’t need a blog to use this method to make money!
If you’re new to affiliate marketing, I recommend you check out From Zero to Superhero: Affiliate Marketing Training Bundle from Ana over at The She Approach!
Ana did a phenomenal job and there’s plenty of great info in here for beginners!
I hope this list inspires you as you search for ways to make money as a stay-at-home mom!
Let me know in the comments which method you’ll be trying in 2022!
